Even a descendant of Arnold Schwarzenegger isn’t immune to struggles in the gym — especially when it comes to building shoulder muscle.
In a new Instagram video posted on Nov. 21, Schwarzenegger’s son Joseph Baena shows off his intense shoulder workout—and how he keeps his troublesome delts in line. The bodybuilder’s key strategy? He pushes himself to the limit. Period.
“For me, shoulders have always been the hardest muscles to grow,” Baena writes in the caption of the video. “I’ve learned that the only real way to grow them is by going all out and burning out ’til you can’t even lift your arms.” (If you’re facing similar struggles, check out our 15 Best Exercises to Build Boulder Shoulders along with this simple dumbbell workout that works your delts in just 20 minutes.)
As if to prove his point, Baena does an intense series of standing dumbbell flys with 35-pound dumbbells. It’s pretty impressive—you can see that all-too-familiar strain at the end as Baena pushes himself to relative exhaustion.
It’s hardly the first time Baena has posted a look at how he maintains his impressive physique. In the past, he’s shared a look at how he achieves a serious pump with a classic bodybuilding move, and gave fans some insight into his back day workout. He’s even replicated some of Arnold‘s most iconic poses on occasion, calling his father the “best training partner in the world.” Hard to argue with that.
